Married Priests in Dutch Triangle
P
AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands New expermental preaching services under the compromise on married priests agreed to by Dutch Roman Catholić Bishops will start March 16, the Amsterdam Student Congregation was told.
The new services constitute a way out of the conflict over priestly celibacy which broke into the open in January when the four Amsterdam Students: pastors asked their congregation whether they were prepared to go all the way toward a break with the Vatican.
THE FOUR SET a deadline of March for their 1,200 parishoners to decide whether to set up a dissident organization served by their colleague, the Rev. Jos Vrijburg, who plans to marry Annemieke Reijmers, 21.
The Dutch bishops announced a compromise which allows Father Vrijburg to preach in new services which are separate from the mass.
The bishops set up a committee of six experts-including three priests-to guide the experiments in the student congregations.
The new services in St. Ignace Chapel will halve the number of Masses on Sundays.
The subject for discussion in the March 16 services will be the denial of legal recognition to CO C. the homosexual association in the Netcrland's, claiming 12,000 members.
The two preaching services will be led by Father Vrijburg and the sermons in the two masses will be given by one of the students' pastors.
